Rainbow Trout Inspired | Trout on the Mind
When it comes to trout fishing, few things are better than fishing a rod built specifically for the way you fish. This custom build started as a personal gift — a rod designed around memorable trout trips, time on the water with friends, and countless outings alongside the customer’s fishing club and trout fishing group.
For this project, we started with our Prolite 7'6" Trout Ultralight build, a platform built for anglers who appreciate lightweight performance, sensitivity, and the ability to make even smaller trout fight like trophies. Whether you’re drifting spinners through mountain streams, casting small spoons in alpine lakes, or working lightweight trout presentations on your favorite local river, this style of ultralight trout rod is built to maximize enjoyment and connection to the fish.
While the backbone of the rod remained our proven Trout Ultralight platform, we made one notable customization. Instead of our standard carbon fiber handle configuration, the customer opted for a classic cork rear grip and foregrip setup. The result brings a timeless trout rod aesthetic, added warmth in hand, and that traditional feel many trout anglers know and love.
After collaborating with the customer and diving into design ideas, we landed on something that felt fitting for a dedicated trout fisherman — a custom rainbow trout inspired wrap design.
Drawing inspiration from the iconic coloration of a wild rainbow trout, this one-of-a-kind wrap incorporates vibrant greens, deep pinks, silvers, and subtle transitions that mimic the unmistakable look of one of freshwater fishing’s most beloved species. The wrap theme ties the entire build together and gives the rod a personality as unique as the angler fishing it.
To date, this remains a true one-of-one custom trout rod wrap design that we haven’t duplicated.
Although… if we’re being honest, we wouldn’t be shocked if this theme eventually becomes a favorite among the trout fishing crowd. It has all the ingredients: classic cork, ultralight performance, trout-inspired cosmetics, and enough rainbow trout flavor to make fellow trout bums stop and take a second look.
And coming from a fellow trout bum myself — that’s meant as the highest compliment possible.
