Red, Gold & Ready to Roll

Red, Gold & Ready to Roll

A Takedown NW Style 10'6" 12-30# That Turns Heads

This rod was a fun one—built with purpose, built with meaning, and built to honor someone who deserved it. Recently, a customer reached out wanting to gift a friend a custom rod. Both of them were already familiar with our lineup, and they knew exactly what they were after: a Takedown NW Style 10'6" Heavy 12–30 lb build paired with a Gold Islander MR3—all finished in a color scheme inspired by the friend’s military background.

Designing a Meaningful Color Story

The goal was clear: bring together red, black, gold, and white in a clean, bold layout that would complement the gold MR3 while still giving the rod a meaningful theme. After talking through the build details, we started with our standard NW-style Takedown layout and began customizing the components to match the vision.

We kept the grip setup both functional and classic, using a cork foregrip combined with our bulletproof carbon fiber rear grip for durability and balance. To make the color theme stand out, we chose a red aluminum reel seat, which pairs beautifully with the gold MR3 and gives the rod an immediate visual statement. A matching red trim ring was added to tie the handle section together, and we finished the rear with a gold aluminum butt cap—clean, bright, and perfectly aligned with the theme.

Bringing the Theme Into the Wraps

The wraps and guides were where the color story really came together. Black guides established the darker base of the palette, while the wraps brought in the remaining colors. We laid down red as the primary wrap color, added gold inlays to tie into the reel and butt cap, and included a thin white inlay inside the gold to incorporate all four colors requested. The result was subtle, detailed, and intentional—exactly what the customer had envisioned.

A Build Worth Celebrating

The customer was thrilled with how the rod turned out, and we’re excited to see this Takedown NW Style setup paired with the gold Islander MR3 out on the water. Builds like this remind us why custom work is so rewarding—taking a meaningful idea and crafting it into something functional, personal, and built to last.

We’re looking forward to seeing photos of this rig bending on a fish.
