Twist of Bass and Whiskey

Twist of Bass and Whiskey

Every now and then, a rod build comes along that’s just as much about the story as it is the specs—and this Texas bass rod is one of those builds.

This rod was built for a bass angler out of Texas who knew exactly what he wanted: performance, precision, and a touch of personality.

When we got to talking, we quickly dialed in on Batson's REVIP70H blank—a fast action, heavy power setup that offered everything he needed for chasing bass in his local waters. Once the foundation was in place, we moved on to style. He asked for a clean split grip and silver hardware accents, and from there, the build started taking shape beautifully.

But one request stood out: he wanted a Crown Royal whiskey cap as the butt cap. Not just any gold trim or factory end cap—he wanted a literal Crown Royal bottle cap to top off his build.

At the time, we didn’t have one lying around, but as fate would have it, I was heading to a bachelor party that weekend. So we figured—what better excuse to grab a handle of Crown than for "rod-building purposes," right? Three days, one party, and a little whiskey later, we had our crown.

The result? A sleek, black-on-silver custom bass rod with a grip that feels just right—and a butt cap that tells its own story. Built to fish hard, but guaranteed to spark conversation at the boat ramp.
