New Gear Gets A Go At Lake Oroville

New Gear Gets A Go At Lake Oroville

In the March issue of California Sportsman, Mark Fong shares his experience testing out new rod technology with Chris Wegeleben, the owner of Prolite Rod Technology, based in Tumwater, Washington. Fong had previously ordered bass rods from Prolite and was impressed with their performance, leading to a collaboration with Wegeleben to field-test new rods in Lake Oroville, California.

Equipped with ultra-finesse spinning rods, Fong and Wegeleben ventured onto the lake, experimenting with different rigs and techniques. Utilizing forward-facing sonar technology, they targeted bass in various depths and structures, comparing the performance of different rod models. Despite a slower mid-morning bite, the action picked up in the afternoon as they adapted their approach and found success drop-shotting in deeper water.

Throughout the day, they evaluated the rods' responsiveness and suitability for different fishing scenarios. Despite some observations about the power of certain models, both Fong and Wegeleben were impressed with the overall performance and versatility of the rods tested. Their successful day on the water concluded with the excitement of trying out a new prototype rod, highlighting the collaborative spirit and dedication to innovation in the fishing community.
